What Chemo Looks Like during COVID
Cancer treatment is hard. It pushes patients to their physical and emotional limits. It instantaneously reshapes loved ones into caregivers and warriors of support. Cancer never pumps the breaks. It doesn’t stop its attack on patients during times of a public health emergency nor can treatment be paused or suspended during such times.
The Des Moines Register features a heartfelt glimpse of the what chemotherapy looks like during the COVID-19 pandemic. It leaves patients alone to go to recurring chemotherapy treatments. It separates caregivers from their loved ones at a time when those loved ones are most in need of support. COVID has completely distorted all features and phases of life. As cancer patients continue down their treatment path, although it may look and feel different than it once did, they should hold tight to the knowledge that it won’t always be this way and that one way or another their caregivers will be there for them.
