VA Caregiver Support

According to the VA, 2.4 million veterans receive caregiver support. The VA’s Caregiver Support Line is a nationwide call center that connects caregivers with resources inside the VA and within the community. In addition, that voice on the other end of the line can help link caregivers to the VA’s Caregiver Peer Support Mentoring program and counter the feelings of isolation many caregivers experience.

Caregivers can keep their batteries’ fully charged when offered emotional support, peer-to-peer mentorship and periodic respite. What zaps their stamina is running into bureaucratic hurdles when seeking care for their loved ones. What they don’t need is added anxiety and uncertainty from untested Medicare payment models that could jeopardize patient access to care close to home, increase patients’ out of pocket costs and undermine personalized patient treatment plans.
