The National Institutes of Health: Crown Jewel of the Federal Government

The National Institutes of Health (NIH), the biomedical research agency of the US Department of Health and Human Services, is the largest biomedical research agency in the world. Most Americans now recognize the NIH’s Dr. Tony Fauci as a familiar face in the battle against the COVID-19 epidemic. In addition to advising the White House response to the global pandemic, Dr. Fauci is overseeing the extensive research portfolio to prevent, diagnose and treat COVID-19.

NIH is also hard at work examining the impact of COVID-19 on our nation’s mental health. Dr. Francis Collins, Director of the NIH, wrote a blog post Dealing with Stress, Anxiety, and Grief during COVID-19. It’s a peek into the spirit of one of the nation’s most revered medical minds. During a time of uncertainty, Dr. Collins’ blog post reminds us that our similarities are often more than our differences. Dr. Collin’s and his NIH colleagues are invaluable assets for #patients, #physicians, and #caregivers because are all in this together.
