Caregiver Spotlight: Working Daughters

Liz O’Donnell’s feelings of being unprepared and overwhelmed when caring for her father following his Alzheimer’s diagnosis while simultaneously supporting her mother through a battle with ovarian cancer has transformed her into a resource for caregivers that look a lot like her: working daughters. Her podcast, titled Working Daughter, is geared toward those she identifies as forgotten caregivers.

Through these platforms, she guides women on balancing their jobs with caring for their parents. Working Daughter is rich in advice and input from medical experts, researchers, financial advisers and entrepreneurs. O’Donnell recently told Ozy Media that there “are resources available for single working mothers, but hardly any for working daughters who have to care for their elderly parents, raise their own children, pursue their career goals and manage other relationships and friendships.” The Working Daughter community is a unique, candid place that women caring for their parents can voice conflicting emotions that they face as caregivers, get practical caregiving and self-care tips and even learn about ‘feel good’ TV shows to watch with elderly parents as an alternative to the never-ending bad news cycle.
